Abstract:

This paper presents results created using the CPS to develop nontelephone household totals by state, race, and poverty status for use in adjusting SLAITS. The work focuses on households with children, but results for all households are provided. A time series analysis was conducted of the CPS monthly data from January 1994 through July 2001. Plans will be discussed in the paper on continuing this series and making it generally available. Particularly challenging are estimates from this dataset for states with small CPS samples, especially for black households. The workarounds developed will be presented, and our plans for improvements described as well. An application of the new controls to the separate SLAITS sample will conclude the paper.
