Abstract:

Beamlets and wedgelets are new multiscale data structures that are created for 2-d functions (e.g., images). Based on these data structures, new methods have been developed for image denoising, feature extraction, detection, and coding--just name a few. Compared to existing methods, the new methods are computationally more efficient and at the same time retain statistical optimality. Several applications will be described in this talk.
