Abstract:
|
We consider comparing multiple (two or more) treatments to a control, with the objective of demonstrating equivalence or noninferiority of the investigational treatments compared to the control. Control of the type I error rate and power must be considered in choosing a method. Several methods have been proposed, including closed testing procedures, min tests, and range tests for demonstrating that all treatments are equivalent to the control--and single-step or stepwise procedures for selecting subsets that are or are not equivalent to the control. We compare and contrast the various methods and present recommendations on procedures to use. Implications for study design are also discussed.
