Abstract:

By using color quantitatively to create semigraphic displays, the Statistical Tableau approach allows the exploration of a variety of data sets. This study focuses on visual understanding, with fidelity of complex multivariate presentations of data derived from many fields of research endeavor. Examples include tracking clinical case studies over variables and occasions, describing the results of testing by examinee and item, illustrating state data for many variables, and analyzing results from an experimental design. Another application details outcomes generated by a large-scale evaluation of a national initiative for seventeen urban school systems. Specific illustrations present scoring results and an analysis of the achievement gap.
