Abstract:

H.G. Wells said, "Statistical thinking will one day be as necessary for effective citizenship as the ability to write." Since the mid-1990s, the term "Statistical Thinking" has been formally developing and is responsible for many successes. This philosophy takes a systematic approach to understanding and taking advantage of variation in any process. In the pharmaceutical industry, plate-based assays are widely used to screen many compounds for activity or toxicity. The ability to provide quality information for selection and ranking of compounds is one key to success in the pharmaceutical industry. This is the opportunity for statistical thinking to have an important impact in the industry. This talk will briefly cover statistical thinking concepts and illustrate the application to data from actual plate-based assays.
