Abstract:

Due to the current technological variability in microarrays, the power of questions they can be used to address is relatively limited. In this talk, we examine the potential for using meta-analysis methods for the analysis of microarray data to increase the scope of these experiments. We discuss the issue of combining data from different technologies. The use of the false discovery rate (FDR) for identifying candidate genes is examined. In addition, we explore the use of pathway database information in order to develop biological hypotheses about disease. The issues are discussed in the prostate cancer setting.
