Abstract:

Bioterrorism is a new reality in the United States. Statisticians can assist in combating this threat by helping to improve early detection systems for disease clusters, streamlining clinical trials, and developing a better understanding of dose-response relationships that will enable vaccines to be stretched to cover more people than originally planned. As part of this effort, it is appropriate for statisticians to use risk analysis techniques to try to identify the most likely threats and the most effective countermeasures.
