Abstract:

We use numerical simulation to examine error rates in cDNA microarray gene screening, with particular emphasis on methods of standardization (or normalization) of observed intensity values. It is assummed that underlying intensities of radioactive dye measuring presence of cDNA and, therefore, expression of particular genes, follows a Gamma (a,b) distribution and that two underlying parameters--a, b--each have a Gamma distribution as well. We utilize prior information from an earlier study of 3,582 genes (Jovanovic et al., AJPhGen 1(2);145-152).
