Abstract:

Spatial Poisson models using conditional autoregressions are commonly used in Bayesian modeling of areal data. Inference for such models is generally carried out via Markov chain Monte Carlo methods. In this paper, we propose a method based on marginal rejection sampling of the variance components to produce independent samples from the posterior distribution. We apply our techniques to Minnesota cancer data sets.
