Abstract:
|
Researchers in the health sciences are exposed to a wide range of problems for which many different analytical methodologies may be appropriate. Although most methodologies assume that analyses will be conducted using statistical techniques, investigators are increasingly turning to qualitative methods to help them answer important research questions. Understanding which methodologies are best for a given situation requires an understanding of how the various investigative methods compare with one another. The purpose of this paper is to organize, within one overarching framework, a conceptual model illustrating relationships among quantitative and qualitative methods used in the health sciences today. Applications for incorporating such a model in the classroom will be presented.
