Abstract:

Public Health Scientists from the New York City Department of Health will illustrate how epidemiology and public health are practiced in the field. Examples will be drawn from the fields of infectious disease, chronic disease, program planning, and recent terrorist tradgedies to illustrate how the scientific methods of epidemiology and the statistical methods employed are used to ensure the health and safety of communities. Career paths in epidemiology and public health will be discussed.
