Abstract:

When different studies are combined in a meta-analysis, the study effects may differ substantially, throwing into doubt the utility of reporting a single pooled estimate. We will discuss the merits of different approaches to dealing with this heterogeneity, focusing on regression techniques using either aggregate data at the study level or individual data at the patient level if available.
