Abstract:

We have witnessed in the past years the rapid progress of the human genome project and biotechnologies. These advances result in many complex datasets associated with in-depth scientific knowledges, e.g., genome sequences of many species, microarray expression profiles of different cell lines, single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the human genome, etc., creating one of the most exciting time for statisticians. Statistics has been pivotal to genetics analysis. We expect that the role of statistics can be equally important in the new field of bioinformatics. This luncheon invites opinions from all statisticians on how statistics can more effectively interact and influence the modern biological sciences.
