The Early Childhood Longitudinal Study: Kindergarten Class of 1998-99 is a longitudinal study from the National Center for Education Statistics that follows a national sample of children from the start of kindergarten through the fifth grade. Four waves of data have already been collected. An initial nonresponse bias analysis was conducted using data from the first two rounds of the study. This initial analysis was similar in most ways to an analysis that would be conducted on cross-sectional survey data. This paper presents findings from nonresponse bias analyses conducted on subsequent rounds, taking into account the longitudinal nature of the study--i.e., it examines the nature of bias due to attrition. In addition to examining the characteristics of sample that did not participate in waves three and four of the study due to attrition, this paper also examines whether potential sources of bias that were identified during the base year persist, or whether attempts to decrease these potential sources of bias were successful.
