Description
This half-day course serves as a unit of the four-part series on statistical communication. It presents an overview of the American Statistical Association's "Ethical Guidelines for Statistical Practice" with a context of general ethical philosophy. The focus of the class in on the ability to appraise, analyze, and resolve practical problems of statistical ethics in realistic working environments. Professionalism and responsibilities in publications and testimony are the main focus. Attendees are strongly encouraged to present to the class ethical problems they have experienced or observed. The class will complete analyses of many real problems as time permits. This course also serves as an introduction and prerequisite to a proposed companion half-day course, "Advanced Statistical Ethics and Research Integrity."
