Description

As vaccine preventable disease become rare in the developed world due to wide use of vaccinations, more concerns about vaccine safety are being raised. Ensuring vaccine safety involves a number of challenging statistical issues. These involve making inferences on surveillance data, communication of extremely small risks to the public, and assessing the public's willingness to accept the risk associated with vaccination in return for the benefits. The centers for disease control employ a variety of statistical techniques in vaccine-related safety issues such as data mining, neural network approaches, and equivalence testing. This talk will discuss techniques from a range of perspectives.
