Description
The American Community Survey (ACS) is the single most important improvement in federal household statistics since the middle of the last century and is the cornerstone to keep pace with ever increasing demands for timely and relevant demographic data. It is no longer acceptable that planners and policy-makers must use data that are up to 12 years out of date. Not only will the American Community Survey provide more frequent detailed data for small geographic areas, but it will also revolutionize the way we take the decennial census by eliminating the long form. It will also lead to more widespread efficiencies throughout the federal statistical system. This session will discuss Census Bureau plans for implementing the American Community Survey, its effect on the federal statistical system, and the impact on community planning.
