Keywords: patient reported outcomes (PRO), electronic health records (EHR), computer adaptive tests, item response theory

The United States and other countries have seen increased use of standardized patient, clinical, and observer reported outcomes in research studies and as a part of the meaningful use of electronic health records to improve health care. This talk will include examples of information needed to integrate PROs in to clinical practice, research designs used to assess integration and PRO selection, and steps used by investigators to improve the study designs of projects pulling PRO information from EHRs.
