Edited Volume

The first International Conference on Establishment Surveys produced Business Survey Methods (Cox et al., 1995, Wiley), a flagship publication. ICES VI will once again feature an edited volume, titled Advances in Business Statistics, Methods, and Data Collection, to be published by Wiley. The volume will discuss the following seven general topics concerning establishment statistics:

  1. New measures/indicators for the economy (the demand side)
  2. Issues in the production of official establishment statistics (the supply side)
  3. Issues in the use of administrative data
  4. Issues in the application of business surveys
  5. Issues in the use of new data sources and new technologies
  6. Issues in sampling and estimation
  7. Issues in data integration/merging

The publications committee will select papers it judges to have a significant contribution to advances and innovations in these seven topics.

We encourage authors of conference papers to submit their manuscripts for consideration; extended drafts are due May 22, 2020. These drafts will be used for preliminary assessments from the publications committee. Presenters may also be contacted by members of the publications committee and invited to contribute to the volume after their presentation. All material included in the book must be presented at the conference.

Authors will be notified about the publications committee decisions as soon as possible but no later than June 30, 2020. A schedule will be provided to book contributors at the same time.

In preparing the extended draft, it may be helpful to consider the guidelines provided from Wiley given below. Keep in mind it is more important to provide a draft paper that is cogent, thought provoking, and innovative than to follow a particular format. Empirical studies should provide a clear description of the data sources, methods used, results, conclusions, and lessons learned—and all relevant literature should be cited. The volume will be printed in grayscale graphics. Please ensure there is no reference to color in figure captions, as the printed book will not make sense. Note, however, that Wiley will create the electronic and online versions of your book using any color images you supply.

Draft paper guidelines:

  1. Font: 10-point Times New Roman
  2. Spacing: Double
  3. Maximum number of pages for final paper: 20, not including figures, tables, and references

See the Wiley site for extended guidelines: index and house style.
