Keywords: unique features, business surveys, business statistics

The production of statistics, regardless of source e.g. administrative data, social surveys or business surveys will follow the high level phases in the Generic Statistical Business Process Model e.g. specify need, design, build, collect. But at the more detailed level, conducting and producing statistics from business surveys have many unique constraints, considerations and features. These primarily come from the need to deal with the following elements: (1) keeping pace with economic, structural, and national accountancy changes; (2) operating within the business context; and (3) maintaining on-going partnerships with business respondents. In chapter one of the forthcoming Wiley book ‘Designing and Conducting Business Surveys’ an introduction to some of the unique constraints, considerations and features of conducting business surveys and producing statistics from business surveys is presented. This presentation provides an overview of these set in the context of the Generic Statistical Business Process Model and the Survey Process.
