The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) collects periodic reports on workforce demographics from public and private employers, unions, labor organizations, and financial institutions who meet certain filing requirements. Of these is the annual EEO-1 report collected from private employers with 100 or more employees or federal contractors with 50 more employees. Approximately 73,400 employers, representing 56.1 million employees, filed EEO-1 reports in 2018. Contractor status is captured within a two-fold question on the EEO-1 data questionnaire: whether the employer identifies as a federal contractor and what their corresponding Dun and Bradstreet Identification number is. Multiple administrative databases were linked to the 2018 EEO-1 worksite records to determine the consistency of self-reported contractors within EEO-1. Summary statistics highlight the presence of records across the databases. This study offered valuable insight on how external sources of data can be leveraged to improve existing large-scale data collection.
