WITHDRAWN: Preparing Sophomore Nursing Students to 'Think with Data': Pedagogical Approach to Critical Thinking Using Statistical Thinking (305343)

Keywords: Critical Thinking, Statistical Thinking, Big data, Clinical Data, GAISE

A major paradigm shift has occurred in learning and teaching nurses all over the world from an instruction-based approach to outcome-based learning, We designed a multidisciplinary course based on the GAISE College Report ASA Revision Committee to implement and examine the efficacy of statistical and critical thinking (CT) with Big data in second year nursing students. Prior research has measured changes in critical thinking (CT) in many different ways, we used the six components of CT from ATI; Interpretation, Analysis, Evaluation, Inference, Explanation, and Self- Regulation. This pedagogical approach study investigated student perceptions of critical thinking and the importance of integrating the clinical data from nursing labs; such as vital signs provide a real-life dataset with important implication hinging on statistical thinking such as these. These data sets can also be used as a starting point for discussions and lectures and sampling design, data collection, and ethical data practices. This combination of both critical and statistical thinking presents opportunities for engagement, exploration, and extension to deep critical thinking.
