The study evaluates the effect of the COVID -19 pandemic on food prices in Nigeria. It is based on the application of some statistical tools like data visualization, descriptive statistics, and paired t-test. The data used were sourced from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) database and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). The study explores data visualization by showing the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic situation on some common food items prices in Nigeria before the Covid-19 pandemic which is January 2019 and August 31st, 2020. These common food items include Beans, Beef, Bread, Catfish, Egg, Frozen Chicken, Garri, Irish potato, Local rice, Maize, Plantain, Imported rice, Yam tuber among others. Their prices are viewed with gray for prices before COVID-19 and pale red for prices during COVID-19. It is revealed from the Data Visualization that the stable food prices are less and affordable for Nigerians before the Pandemic but there is a hike in the food items during the COVID-19 pandemic as a result of Lockdown. The data visualization also reveals total confirmed cases in Nigeria.
