The Statistical Cross-disciplinary Collaboration and Consulting Lab (SC3L) has provided statistical consulting services for University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) students, faculty, and staff since 2015. The SC3L has been steadily growing its client base in the university and establishing a good reputation as a resource for quality statistical collaboration. Consequently, the expansion of the SC3L’s client base has led to interactions with clients who have little to no knowledge about the role of statisticians in planning experiments. Oftentimes, the consultants are limited to providing post-hoc analysis for poorly designed experiments to answer the primary objectives of the clients. This poster will discuss the challenges faced by a growing consulting service in an academic setting where the role of statisticians in planning and designing experiments is underutilized. Examples of notable cases of post-hoc analysis will be cited. This work will also outline how the SC3L has taken steps to promote collaboration with statisticians in designing experiments through projects with service courses and partnerships with other units.
