The CDC Overdose Data to Action (OD2A) program is a nationwide cooperative agreement that furthers overdose surveillance and prevention efforts. The University of Pittsburgh is evaluating OD2A activities for Pennsylvania, conducted by the state and local health departments (LHDs). Monthly reporting is required and each of eight LHDs has specific overdose prevention activities. Activities vary across LHDs.
For the optimum reporting environment, we used Qualtrics (Qualtrics, 2021) to create a tool customized for each LHD and allowing multiple people to report on activities. A pdf copy of the submission is automatically sent to partners. Automation improved the evaluation process by: 1) not requiring manual download and distribution of the reports, 2) allowing advance review of the reports, creating more concise and beneficial meetings, and 3) streamlining communication across stakeholders, potentially reducing costs. We produced longitudinal reports for all activities and a cumulative statewide report. By extending Qualtrics’ reach, we developed a tool capable of survey creation and customization, data storage, and automatic report generating, ultimately improving project outcomes.
