Typically, the pharmaceutical industry pre-plans several hundred static outputs in detailed analysis plan documents to help them explain and interpret data from study patients. Tragically, unexpected events occur in the trial necessitating the creation of additional output! To counter this, Novartis leverages R–Shiny to develop interactive tools (Apps) to explore their clinical trial data with ease. Several clinical programs have been positively impacted, with the ultimate goal of reaching the entire drug development portfolio. Novartis created the Scientific Computing and Consulting team to accelerate App development. With the datapipeline automated framework, Apps now have a harmonized look and feel, and provides a level of consistency such that compliant modules developed for one study may be applied to alternate studies simple data mapping techniques. This talk will describe our experiences with R-Shiny with some exploratory examples; we will discuss how Novartis has qualified some of these Apps for an official DMC setting; and will demonstrate how datapipeline facilitates the automation of fully functional Apps that may then be tailored to the clinical study of interest.
