Intersections of Statistical Practice, Policy, and Advocacy (304098)

One goal of statistical practice is to address real-world problems using innovative design, analysis, and consultation techniques. Another important but perhaps less well-understood part of statistical practice involves advocacy for objective and evidence-based statistical policy. This presentation will provide high-level discussion of intersections between statistical practice, advocacy, and policy through use of case examples and participant engagement. Criteria to consider prior to engaging in advocacy will be identified and advocacy opportunities for statisticians and quantitative scientists will be presented.
