WITHDRAWN: The Application of Structural Equation Modeling in an Educational Setting (304060)

Max Samuel Brumer, California State University, Sacramento
Greg M. Kim-Ju, California State University, Sacramento

Keywords: Structural Equation Modelling, Communication, Psychology, Education, Community Research

Structural equation modelling (SEM) has grown exponentially over the last few decades in the behavioral sciences. One reason could be the introduction and use of point-and-click software and R packages. The researcher may understand the statistical and conceptual framework behind SEM; however, this may be lost when disseminating research to people with little or no statistical background. For example, a school psychologist may conduct a study and hope to share the results with students, teachers, and school administrators. Given proper training, SEM can be effectively taught to non-statisticians. The goal of the proposed poster is to provide audiences with the history and application of SEM with an emphasis on education. Common SEM software and techniques for data visualization beyond a path diagram will be discussed. Two SEM examples will be provided which will allow attendees to learn and practice what they learned. Conference attendees will walk away from the poster with a better understanding of SEM from a historic and applied perspective, as well as the statistical and communicative tools necessary for involving community members in research.
