Industry guidelines provide standard methods for raw material assessments in commercial and military applications. These guidelines are important to manufacturers because statistical methods directly impact product design considerations, quality analysis and cost. As processes become more complex, it is vital that statistical methods in the industry are continually evaluated and updated when necessary. To ensure statistical methods are aligned to advances in aircraft manufacturing, Boeing collaborates closely with internal stakeholders and industry partners. The Boeing Applied Math team works with Boeing engineers, product design leaders, and supply chain as well as suppliers, competitors, and regulators in the industry to evaluate industry methods, understand how changes in manufacturing impact statistical processes, research and innovate new statistical technology, and present statistical methods to be incorporated as industry standards. In this presentation, we will discuss the role of communication in assessing and developing industry standard methods. We will also describe strategies and lessons learned when cross-collaborating with internal partners and external stakeholders.
