Remote work is becoming increasingly popular for staff and employers. While working remotely can be appear to be an ideal situation, the lack of in-person interaction with colleagues can leave you feeling isolated and hinder your career growth. To counteract the physical distance between you and your colleagues, increase your effectiveness, and set appropriate boundaries in a remote work environment requires more thoughtful and deliberate effort than if you were working every day from company headquarters. This presentation will offer numerous recommended behaviors for full-time or part-time remote workers to help deliver higher quality results and build stronger relationships. Although the presentation is in the context of remote work, non-remote workers are also encouraged to attend since many of the suggested behaviors are universal to increasing effectiveness at work, regardless of the environment. Examples include how to stay fully engaged and add value in meetings, a structure for a check-in meeting with your direct supervisor, and effectively using an instant messaging application like Skype while avoiding unnecessary distractions.
