Project management is not usually in the curriculum for graduate statistics training. It is a competence most statisticians must learn on their own. In this talk, Dr. Jablonski will present basic management practices accumulated and refined over decades of experience that help the statistician project manager to conceive, plan, and execute work on a project. Typically, projects involve a large group of people with diverse skills, which may include data entry personnel, coordinators, programmers, and statisticians. Project management allows the manager to maintain control and track the work of a team to achieve program goals within a specified time frame. Statistical project management is not a one-size-fits-all skill set. Therefore, she will also discuss project management ideas and skills used by her colleagues at a sizeable biostatistical unit so the audience can benefit from the experiences of many statistician project leaders.
