Continuous learning has always been an integral part of transitioning from statistical education to the role of a practicing statistician in a NSO. At Statistics Canada, this is emphasized even more now in this age of modernization, where the agency is moving from a survey first approach to a more integrated approach with increased emphasis on the use of alternate data. Where historically training was mostly accomplished in the form of in-class training, a new large scale multi-facet learning program for mathematical statisticians was recently launched. This presentation will provide an overview of this ambitious initiative, with a description of its main components and some of the modern approaches to developing practicing statisticians. From the presentation, student and individuals starting their professional career will benefit from learning what skills NSOs are looking for and get suggestions on how they can prepare for a career as a statistician. Hiring managers and organizations will also benefit from this shared knowledge, which will lead to an open discussion and exchange on the role and approaches to training and career development for practising statisticians.
