Data Visualization Using Power BI for Statistics Canada’s Monthly Survey of Manufacturing (303965)

As Canada’s national statistical organization, Statistics Canada provides Canadians with high-quality statistics from numerous surveys and administrative data sources. In an effort to make data more accessible, interactive dashboards can be used to provide extensive data in an efficient and intuitive manner. Within Statistics Canada’s economic programs, these dashboards can provide a national picture by industrial classification and can also be used to dive deeper into changes by specific industry or geography and help in the analysis before disseminating the data. One such use is a dashboard for the Monthly Survey of Manufacturing. Developed using Power BI, a Microsoft business analytics service, this dashboard provides analysts with several tools that cover major aspects of the survey cycle such as sampling, edit and imputation and estimation to assist them in their analysis. An overview of the use of data visualization and dashboards at Statistics Canada will be provided, followed by a presentation of this dashboard and some of the key features available through it.
