Captain Obvious- It might be obvious to us, but for our clients it isn’t! As more people look to gain some benefit from data, we find ourselves with less data savvy clients. Even before we start talking about analysis, basic ideas about how data work aren’t obvious. Is a category a segment or a level of response? If two averages are close, why are they not correlated? Why does it matter what number is on the bottom of a ratio? What is the difference between ratios and proportions? In this talk I will talk about some recent incidents with clients, demonstrate some ideas to work with obvious problems in an empathetic and productive way. Participants will have a chance to explore some of their own ‘obvious’ problems.
