Engaging Undergraduates in Statistical Consulting (303573)

In this talk, I will discuss my experience engaging students in pro bono statistical consulting. Local and national politics spurred me to offer statistical services to Planned Parenthood of Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota. Over a dozen undergraduate students enthusiastically stepped up to collaborate on these consulting projects. During this session, I will discuss finding projects that match students' interests and abilities, advising students on the statistical analyses, guiding students' collaborative efforts, helping students prepare their presentation for the client, and communicating with the client. I will share what went well and lessons I learned.
