Science enables discovery of how the natural world works through the collection and study of observable physical evidence. The role of the statistician/scientist is to interpret the evidence to discover new insights. There is an implicit understanding that this evidence is interpreted in an intelligent and unbiased manner, that is, that accepted scientific rules are used in all aspects of the scientific process, including experimental design, data collection, analysis, and reporting results. The recent adoption of the new ASA Ethical Guidelines helps practicing statisticians make ethical decisions regarding statistical analyses and provides a set of standards to those who rely on statistical analysis for decision making. This talk presents practical examples of how you can use these guidelines to help you more adeptly deal with the challenges of consulting and collaboration and how they provide a framework to help you become a more successful and accomplished practicing statistician.
