Transforming Professional Biostatistics Consultations into Undergraduate Research Projects (303263)*Darlene Marie Olsen, Norwich UniversityKeywords: undergraduate research, collaboration, biostatistics, time series, microarray Engaging undergraduates in research is an expectation at Norwich University. All mathematics majors are required to complete a senior capstone project; however, mentoring of students does not count towards the faculty teaching load. With this additional demand on time, to continue statistical consulting during the academic year, projects were adapted to include undergraduate researchers. Lessons learned over the years will be shared with a focus on two successful undergraduate collaborations; examining the cellular effects of an environmental toxin using time course microarray data and analyzing the relationship between an endocrine mediator of satiety and exercise over a time course experiment.
