Networking - the kind you do face-to-face, not face-to-Facebook - is not everyone's idea of a good time. For many, the very word brings visions of crowded trade association mixers dominated by an army of assertive, well-dressed, glad-handing close-talkers with a seemingly bottomless supply of business cards. In truth, scenes like that represent a very small percentage of networking interactions. Networking is simply the practice of making meaningful connections between people, usually one person at a time. For many years, it has been a critical tool for enhancing one's career and it remains no less so now, even with the explosion of online networking. A substantial percentage of new opportunities are made through informal face-to-face contacts found though small degrees of separation between people. In this session, you'll learn the basics of how to seek and establish useful connections with others and prepare yourself to represent your capabilities effectively.
