Keywords: veterinary clinical trials, continuous, binary
In some veterinary clinical trials, the primary variable of interest is continuous in nature, but may be converted to a binary outcome (success/failure) for an individual based on a required level of improvement during the trial. The comparison of treatment groups is then determined based upon the binary outcome with associated hypotheses to evaluate the difference between treatment groups. Alternatively, one could statistically compare the treatment groups based on the original scale of measurement with appropriate hypotheses. This presentation focuses on the comparison of the two approaches. We will discuss pros and cons of each approach using examples.
