Leadership for the discipline of Statistics is an important (and huge) topic. I’m excited to join and learn from an esteemed panel to discuss the skills we can nurture to increase our influence. In my opening remarks, I will reflect on an industry that at first glance doesn’t appear to have much in common with drug development, yet one with a common, central dimension that we must deliver on to be successful. I will make a business case for a style of leadership that drives innovation, engaged employees and better company financial performance. I will define the difference between management and leadership and will offer three concepts that if practiced can enable life-long growth as a leader and measured impact. I’ll close with a few stories which illustrate what these concepts can look like in practice from my career.
