Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence: Dynamic Landscape in Pharmaceutical Development and Clinical Decision-Making

On the Interface of Precision Medicine and Machine Learning (300949)

*Michael Kosorok, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

Keywords: precision medicine, artificial intelligence, machine learning, decision support, individualized treatment rules

The goal of precision medicine is to provide reproducible and generalizeable decision support based on patient characteristics in a manner which optimizes clinical outcomes across a heterogeneous population. In this presentation, we will provide several foundational principles for precision medicine, as well as statistical and machine learning methodology for accomplishing decision support, including estimation of individualized treatment rules. Some applications in type 1 diabetes will be given for illustration.
