In predicting and ranking volleyball team performance, it is important to develop a flexible model that accounts for the different factors of teams on the fields. As the association between the point spreads and teams rankings/ratings may vary over teams, there are common factors and algorithms to have a prediction of win/loss and point spreads in volleyball games. This study proposes a linear regression statistical method to study the points spread behavior in volleyball games and its association with the in-game statistics, overall standings of each team and competitors. Some selected playing factors examined in this study were the Attack, Block, Serve, Dig, Set and some team/performer/games's characteristics. The data used in this study include over hundreds of sample games of high school varsity volleyball sport data during 2018-2022 from the official site of MAXPREPS. Our analysis can help improve the understanding of varsity volleyball team performance, ranking and evaluation.
