We develop and illustrate methods for the joint spatio-temporal modeling of animal tracking data with species distribution data. We first develop a framework for year-round modeling of migratory behavior of individual birds. This model allows for variation in behavior through subpopulation structure. We then scale this model up to its large population limit to develop a population-level differential equation model formally linked to the individual level model. As the species distribution data are compositional in nature, and exhibit temporal dependence, we develop a novel autoregressive dirichlet process which can capture temporal dependence while also maintaining a mean value defined by the population level differential equation that is the large population limit of the individual movement model. We then fit this joint model to continental scale species distribution data obtained in collaboration with the eBird citizen science initiative and individual GPS data on migratory birds. The resulting analysis provides a finer scale understanding of migratory connectivity than was possible before.
