Abstract:

The 2020 Census Disclosure Avoidance changes have affected the release of data products and have generated controversy over their applicability to a census context. This session will discuss these matters as of summer 2022, with participants with expertise in the pre 2020 census disclosure avoidance methods; the development of the research communities evaluation of the demonstration products the bureau produced as they developed the methods; the impact of the new methods on census uses, particularly the 2020 redistricting round; and the longer history of confidentiality protection in census law and practice.
