Computational advertising is an important new field for statistics. It touches on almost every aspect of statistics: prediction, causal inference, process monitoring, topic modeling, and more. This talk describes the business model and mechanisms of on-line advertising, then sketches the particulars of how different aspects of statistics are relevant to successful advertising.
