Simple population measures such as the Relative Rate Index can show whether groups are experiencing the same volume of events, but what should your next steps be if they reveal signs of disparity? Further investigation is needed to determine whether similar individuals who exhibit similar behaviors receive different sanctioning outcomes depending on race. Using administrative data from community corrections department, we examine regression models (with and without interaction terms) of sanctions given directly after known violations and sanctions given to each supervised individual over a set time period. Results are synthesized into a holistic analysis of our practices, as we investigate whether racial groups or subgroups are being effected by implicit bias in sanctioning.
