Innovation in statistics and data science requires the equitable elevation of diverse perspectives. In this talk, I intend to share the mechanisms by which the tightly woven interplay between power and privilege serve as an impediment to and catalyst for progressively reshaping of the opportunity structure for leadership in our field. This talk will be informed by my personal experience as an African-American, female, lesbian statistician committed to increasing diversity, inclusion, and equity in our field as well as the ways in which power and privilege have been uniquely operationalized in the MeToo movement.
