There have been different techniques developed to teach a variety of mathematical and statistical concepts. When the pandemic resulted in a paradigm shift in education institutions, it brought up the challenge to adapt these techniques to online platform. The thought that struck my mind was why can't we help the students to develop a growth mindset through our courses which can be used to solving mathematical equations to day-to-day events. As a first step, I implemented several strategies to foster unsupervised group discussions in asynchronous, synchronous and blended settings in order to encourage student interactions. I will present the results obtained from a few class surveys from different levels of statistics courses I taught which is in support of my research question along with the approaches employed to enhance students’ online learning experience and to make connections with the students. Further, through these group discussions, they were to share their opinions and experiences related to things that inspire and lead to their success. The interesting outcomes of these brainstorming discussions will be presented.
