Abstract:

Military service provides unique opportunities for sexual partnership development. Changes in social networks, geographic relocation, and other bridging opportunities may contribute to the high burden of sexually transmitted infections (STI) in the military. Sample of 821 military beneficiaries completed a computer-assisted self-interview cross-sectional egocentric survey of sexual history and individual STI risk factors & 90-day sexual partner inventory; about 81% reported at least one partnership. Additional demographical and clinical data were captured from the electronic medical record. We constructed: sampling weights for respondents’ partners which might account for number of sexual partners for each respondent; race and ethnic groups based on available information; concurrency & assortative mixing by race/ethnicity and sex between respondents and their sexual partners. Weighted logistic regression was used to assess the association between risk factors & laboratory-confirmed STI or condom/dental dam usage. Results of Cohen’s kappa on two items reporting agreement between respondents & their sexual partners, and issues related to our statistical analyses will be presented.
