Abstract #317335
Title: Promoting Awareness and Education of Bayesian Statistical Topics Among Our Clinical Drug Development Colleagues
Author(s): Ross Bray*
Companies: Eli Lilly and Company
Keywords: Bayesian methods; Adaptive designs; Medical Outreach; Education
Abstract:

Even with substantial improvements in adaptive and Bayesian methodologies and increasing applications in many fields, there are education and practice gaps related to the use of these approaches for both statisticians and non-statisticians in drug and medical device development. Gaps in education and practice for statisticians have been explored (Natanegara et al 2014) so this discussion will focus on non-statisticians. A recent survey of >300 non-statisticians was conducted by the DIA medical outreach Bayesian and adaptive designs working groups and focused on the greatest barriers to using adaptive and Bayesian methods in drug development. Preliminary results of the survey show these non-statisticians see a gap in their ability to evaluate and interpret the results of Bayesian methods in clinical trials. This roundtable will bring in statisticians working in drug development to discuss their experiences working in cross-functional teams when considering Bayesian methods and analyses as well as potential ways to promote Bayesian methods and educate non-statisticians in Bayesian statistics.
